Website Data Sources

Search Engines

If you use Google Webmaster Tools or similar at other search engines, data from there can help. Not least in tracking errors search robots might find, or anomalies created by search engines.

Your Server

Most hosting facilities offer server logs. These record all instances of files as requested, the user agent (often a visitor's browser) and the response a server gave.

Data from log files can also be used to analyse website user behaviour but isn't ideal. Caching issues and others may make site log data an innaccurate metric, good analytic software comes closer.

Your Customers

You may collect information directly from customers, or use a software system such as Google Analytics. As your customers are always at the heart of our website reports, this can be useful.

Sharing Data for Reports

We should make clear that being able to provide any form of website data is not a requirement. We can access a great deal ourselves, existing data is simply a useful addition which may assist with investigation.

The left hand column on this page shows types of data you could choose to supply, or we may ask for after a preliminary study. By all means send in other information you feel is relevant, this could range from sales history to rate of sign up for email newsletters, we are happy to see whatever you have.

This includes records you might hold on domain changes, technical amendments to your site, variations in performance you tracked. We do not require any of this but sharing knowledge of a website can help analysts and is used for no other purpose, all details are confidential.

Security of Website Data

Each of our clients is assigned a separate entry in a secure database. information relating to their business or website is entered there and only there, whether this is Webmaster Tools log in data, or a phone number.

No details go beyond our analysts or consultants. Neither is confidential data allowed to leave on laptops or usb keys, anyone working on your site is required to log in. This maintains security and helps provide efficient input.

Your information is protected and used as you would wish, should you have any concerns regarding this, you are welcome to contact us at any time.
